A fantastic conference weekend

31/03/17

This year's Academic Forum and Annual Conference took place on 31 March and 1 April at the Royal College of Physicians, Regent's Park, London (home to the world's largest collection of antique tongue-scrapers!). We were pleased to welcome over 100 delegates to the Annual Conference and almost 70 delegates to the Academic Forum.

The programmes on both days were wide-ranging and thought-provoking, covering the hottest topics in insolvency and restructuring law. Attendees were inspired with talk of the potential reform of directors' duties, the use of Mumsnet as an academic research tool, what a Trump presidency may herald for the global economy and current issues in schemes of arrangement, amongst other topics. We were entertained by lively panel debates on the post-Brexit insolvency and restructuring landscape and the challenges faced by the profession in maintaining our pre-eminent position as the restructuring jurisdiction of choice. Speakers brought views from Australia, New York, France and Spain, and the delegates boasted an even wider geographical spread.

The ILA's role as a forum for insolvency and restructuring law discussion, vigorous debate and creative innovation among the profession is very much alive and kicking.

The papers for the Academic Forum are available here and, for the Annual Conference, here. A fuller summary of the days' proceedings is available here.

We are very grateful to our Forum and Conference Chairs, Prof. Andrew Keay and Leon Zwier, to Weil for organising the event and co-ordinating the Annual Conference programme, to Inga West for co-ordinating the Academic Forum programme, to our wonderful speakers for being so generous with their time and knowledge, and to our sponsors for their generous support.
